A few facts about Tučepi

Tučepi is a small town and municipality in the Split-Dalmatia County and is located on the Adriatic coast, known as the Makarska Riviera, some 5 km southeast of Makarska,

The name of the town probably originates from an old Illyrian word meaning 'village at the spring', as the area has many natural springs and hence many terraced gardens, vineyards and olive-groves.

There is a local folk legend, according to which the Venetian Doge Pietro I Candiano is buried here, who died in 887 in a battle against the Croatian tribe of Neretvans, who defeated the Venetian fleet near Makarska, after which the Venetians made a treaty with Prince Branimir in 888, agreeing to pay a tribute to the Croatian rulers for the right to sail and trade unmolested along the Adriatic, which they had to adhere to until the end of the 10th century.

Tucepi is one of the most beautiful and famous vacation places on the Adriatic, with numerous hotels and family houses which offer diversified accommodation.

It is distinguished by the most beautiful and longest gravel beach of the Makarska Riviera, as well as a beautiful pine wood, olive-groves, luxury hotels, beautiful houses and sports grounds.

Local specialities are served both in large restaurants as well as in the picturesque little family-run restaurants.
